Heartland is governed by a fifteen-member “tri-partite” Board of Directors that geographically reflects our four-county service area. One-third of the members represent a low income perspective, one-third are elected public officials (county commissioners), and one-third represent diverse parts of the private sector.
The mission of Heartland is “to eliminate poverty and advocate for low-income families.” We operate under a transformational strategic plan that guides us to focus on strategies that move people out of poverty permanently (as opposed to “band-aiding” the conditions of poverty).
