This week, African Development Center opens a satellite office in Mankato. ADC is a nonprofit financial education, technical assistance and lending provider created in 2002 to guide upward mobility for African immigrants and refugees in Minnesota.
This is a major milestone for our organization and the state’s growing African population. It was only last year that ADC began its first outreach to Greater Minnesota. Response has proved so strong that ADC committed to opening a regional office to serve the Mankato area as well as Owatonna and Rochester.
The new office will be staffed by Abdikadir Sugulle, a young man who just completed his BS in Management from Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall and an internship with Minnesota Small Business Development Center in Mankato. It is located in the Technology Plus Building (1961 Premier Drive, Suite 100), equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and an array of offices and classrooms. Abdikadir will the point person to coordinate participation by ADC’s full program staff based in Minneapolis.
ADC will soon begin offering homeownership and business workshops at the Mankato location. Look for an announcement of the schedule in coming weeks.
Our young organization is thrilled about having an on-the-ground presence in one of the nation’s 100 Best Communities for Young People (as ranked by the America’s Promise Alliance founded by Colin Powell). Mankato is a striving, diverse community, including newly arrived African immigrants and refugees.
To celebrate the grand opening and introduce our newest staff member, Abdikadir Sugulle, ADC is holding an open house event on Thursday August 14 from 4:30 pm – 7: 00 pm, in our new Mankato space. Snacks and refreshments will be served. The event is free and open to the public. We look forward to seeing you there!
