Immigration by Africans to Minnesota is no longer a Twin Cities phenomenon. Fast-growing populations are taking hold in several Greater Minnesota cities. ADC is eagerly reaching out to each of these communities to welcome them and assess their need for economic development services. As part of this effort, ADC is statistically documenting immigration and economic conditions through on-the-ground surveys. While a new project, this research is already adding considerably to the available demographic data on African immigrants and refugees in Minnesota.

ADC conducted and analyzed surveys in the spring of 2008 in the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood in Minneapolis, as well as Willmar and Mankato. This research helps document and explain these communities to mainstream institutions – including local governments, nonprofits and private financial institutions – that will influence the communities’ upward mobility in the years to come. We invite you to download presentations of the surveys located below.
